The Hereford Starlab consists of a complete portable planetarium system capable of demonstrating the stars, planets and moon. The Starlab has proved to be an excellent environment for teaching concepts about the Earth, Moon and Sun relationship.
The Space Science presentation covers The Earth's Place in the Universe and subjects as outlined in the National curriculum .
Demonstration of the relative positions and orbits of the Earth and Moon with respect to the Sun. Gravitation and Kepler's Laws.
A journey through the Solar System showing slides of the Sun and planets.
The brightness and colour of stars is pointed out and constellations named, Circumpolar stars are picked out and constellations shown including: The Great Bear, The Little Bear and Cassiopeia. The method of finding the Pole star is demonstrated. The importance of Polaris for navigation is explained and the star field is then rotated to simulate the rotation of the Earth.
 
Key Stages 3 and 4
The above with more detailed explanations including: The phases of the Moon , Solar and Lunar eclipses, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the relative sizes of astronomical bodies and the distances between them . The speed of light will be referred to and the concept of gravity introduced.
The number of slides shown will be extended to include: Other galaxies, pictures from the Hubble Telescope of distant galaxies and other deep space objects.
